Grading Criteria

Paper and Project submissions will be graded by professors and a student editorial staff, and will be evaluated with a grading rubric with the following point structure:

Grading Criteria for Paper Submissions (both undergrad and graduate):

Content

  • Complete (4 pts) – all relevant content, well developed
  • Civil (4 pts) – tone in harmony with symposium purpose of engaging issues with civility and respect
  • Appropriate Topic (4 pts) – explains in submission email or paper how paper or project is relevant to strengthening the family)
  • Academic Rigor 9 (pts) – academic, legal or philosophical support for argument, appropriate citations if applicable
  • Clarity (9 pts) – well-developed, articulate, focused, logical, rigorous engagement with the subject

Writing

  • Writing Style (3 pts) – formality, conciseness, world choice, etc.
  • Organization (3 pts) – coherence, length, appropriate sequence/structure, unity, development
  • Sentence Standards (2 pts) – structure, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, numbers, spelling, etc.
  • Formatting (2 pts) – font, size, style, alignment, appropriate headings, space

Total Possible Paper Points: 40

Grading Criteria for Creative Project Submissions

  • Complete (4 pts) – project description included with all relevant information
  • Creative (4 pts) – original creation, reflects individual effort and unique perspective
  • Relevance (10 pts) – project submission clearly explains how it is relevant to strengthening the family
  • Quality and Impact (5 pts) – skill, professional presentation, impact of project

Grading Criteria for Volunteer Service Submissions

  • Complete (4 pts) – all relevant information included in project description
  • Relevance (4 pts)- organization and service related to strengthening marriage and family
  • Impact (5 pts)- service rendered had/has a meaningful impact on strengthening marriage and family
  • Volunteer hours (10 pts)- number of hours of service rendered
